When you travel solo, one of the first things you want to feel is safe—especially in your hotel. I’ll admit, I was nervous about mine. After weeks of searching, I had my heart set on another place, but it booked up for part of my stay (a Bulgarian holiday weekend). I went with my second choice, Family Hotel Panorama Blue, and ended up grateful that I did.
Quite a name, right? It deserves four names—and four coffee cups. ☕☕☕☕ (Exceeds expectations.)
Arrival & First Impressions
🪜After about forty stairs—definitely not my favorite moment after seventeen hours of travel—I was greeted by Krasima, who met me with a smile that instantly eased my nerves. She even walked me back outside to point out where to get dinner, where to find a morning banitsa, and the shortcut to Old Town. My room turned out to be down a short flight of stairs instead of up. I think she felt bad there wasn’t a higher room available, but honestly, I was thrilled not to climb another step
The Room
🌊I’d treated myself to a deluxe double with a private bathroom and sea-view balcony. Prices in Bulgaria are wonderfully reasonable, so splurging a little felt easy to justify. The room was bright and comfortable—bed, desk, armoire, updated bath with a walk-in shower, and a wide balcony with a bistro-style table and chair. It felt peaceful, a little haven after long travel days.
Safety & Security
🔐Security here is excellent. The hotel has a single entrance that every guest passes when entering or leaving. After 10 p.m. the front door locks; guests have their own key to come and go. I never needed it (early bedtime club), but I liked knowing it was there.
The only small thing I’d change is the lighting—the lobby can be quite dim in the evening. The desk clerk sits in near-darkness, which can feel unsettling the first time you notice it, especially if you’re traveling alone.
Sound & Sleep
🔇I’d read online that the walls were thin and that fishermen leave from the street below in the early hours. My neighbors must have been very quiet because I heard nothing. I packed earplugs as a precaution but never used them—a habit I still recommend on every trip.
Finding Your Way
🗺️The shortcut to Old Town that Krasima showed me was a gem: a few steps behind the hotel, up a little stairway, past mopeds, through a gate—and suddenly you’re in the center of things. I walked it morning and evening, even once around 8 p.m., and it always felt safe.
Little Touches of Belonging
💐Panorama Blue is small enough that the staff recognize faces. There’s coffee at the front desk each morning, and while I usually wandered down to Old Anchor for cappuccino, I would’ve felt perfectly comfortable grabbing one there. One evening, Krasima mentioned a dance exhibition happening for the holiday. I freshened up and went—something I’d have missed completely at a larger hotel.
What I’d Tweak
🔧The stairs could be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues—there’s no way around them—and while the lighting is safe, it could feel more welcoming with just a few added lamps. Both are minor things, but worth noting.
Final Thoughts
🍵Friendly faces, sea views, and a genuine sense of care make Family Hotel Panorama Blue a wonderful find. It’s not flashy, but it’s sincere—and that sincerity made me feel right at home.
